Things to Do in Hochatown & Broken Bow: Our Local Guide

Our favorite places, activities, restaurants, and experiences around Hochatown, Beavers Bend State Park, and Broken Bow Lake.

A Local Guide From Timber & Stone Cabins

One of our favorite things about spending time in Hochatown is that there’s always something to do—but you certainly don’t have to do much at all. Some of our best days here have been spent exploring Beavers Bend, getting out on Broken Bow Lake, enjoying a great meal, or simply finding a favorite local spot and slowing down for a while.

Rather than trying to list everything in the area, we’ve put together some of the places and experiences we enjoy and regularly recommend to our guests at Vanilla Bean, First Kiss, and Stonewood. Think of this as the same advice we’d give friends coming to Hochatown for a few days.

Explore Beavers Bend State Park

Beavers Bend State Park is one of the reasons this area is so special and is absolutely worth making time for during your stay. The park follows the Mountain Fork River through beautiful forest and offers hiking, fishing, kayaking, scenic drives, picnic areas, and plenty of places to simply get outside and enjoy the surroundings.

You don’t need an elaborate plan to enjoy Beavers Bend. Take a drive through the park, stop along the river, choose a hiking trail that fits your group, or pack a lunch and spend a few hours exploring. Fall is especially beautiful, but we enjoy the park throughout the year.

Spend a Day on Broken Bow Lake

Broken Bow Lake is another must-see while you’re here. Surrounded by forest and known for its clear water, the lake is a great place for boating, swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, or simply spending an afternoon near the water.

If you’re visiting during the warmer months, renting a boat or spending a day on the lake can easily become one of the highlights of the trip. Even if you aren’t planning a full lake day, it’s worth taking some time to see it while you’re in the area.

Go Fishing — Bob's Guide Services

If you’d like to spend some time fishing Broken Bow Lake, Bob's Guide Services is our personal recommendation. We’ve fished with Bob numerous times over the years and have always had a great experience.

Whether you’re an experienced angler or simply want an enjoyable day fishing the lake, Bob knows Broken Bow Lake extremely well and makes the trip fun and easy. He’s one of the local guides we’re very comfortable recommending to our guests.

Eat & Drink Around Hochatown

Hochatown has changed tremendously over the years, and one of the biggest changes has been the number of restaurants, breweries, wineries, coffee shops, and casual places to spend an afternoon or evening.

We generally encourage our guests to explore rather than trying to create a definitive “best restaurants” list. Part of the fun is finding the place that fits what you’re in the mood for—whether that’s pizza and beer after a day on the lake, a relaxed breakfast, live music, a winery, or dinner out with the family.

Stonewood guests have an especially fun advantage here: several popular Hochatown restaurants, breweries, wineries, coffee shops, and entertainment spots are within walking distance of the cabin.

Enjoy the Mountain Fork River

The Mountain Fork River offers a completely different experience from Broken Bow Lake. The river winds through Beavers Bend and is popular for trout fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and simply enjoying the scenery.

If being on the water sounds appealing but a full day on the lake doesn’t, spending some time along the river is a great alternative.

Slow Down and Explore Hochatown

Not every day needs an itinerary. Hochatown is full of places where you can stop for coffee, sample a local wine or beer, browse shops, listen to live music, grab something to eat, or simply see what catches your attention.

That’s actually one of our favorite ways to enjoy the area. Leave yourself some unscheduled time and explore.

And Don't Forget the Cabin

There’s a reason we put so much thought into the outdoor spaces at our cabins. You don’t have to spend every minute of your getaway looking for something to do.

Sometimes the best plan is getting back to the cabin, soaking in the hot tub, lighting the outdoor fireplace or fire pit, playing a few games, cooking dinner, and enjoying the people you came with.

Vanilla Bean, First Kiss, and Stonewood each offer a different way to experience Hochatown, but all three were created around the same idea: giving our guests a comfortable place to slow down, spend time together, and make some great memories.

We hope you enjoy Hochatown, Beavers Bend, and Broken Bow Lake as much as we do—and maybe discover a few favorites of your own along the way.
